Ask for feedback on how your actions affect other’s performance
Today’s Tip: At the end of each one-on-one meeting with your direct reports or fellow teammates, ask: “What do you need from me to perform your job better? What could I do differently as a leader to help you be more successful?” Be sure to act on what you hear, or explain why you can’t promptly.
Food for Thought: The very best leaders are both self-aware and socially aware. They consistently monitor how their actions impact those around them. When they solicit feedback from others (which they do frequently), they don’t just ask “How am I doing?” but they also ask “How can I help you?”
